Digg 3, not for 800*600 surfers
Monday June 26 2006 20:47
A couple of weeks ago Yahoo launched their new site without support for 800*600 or lower.
Today Digg launched their new version 3 and they have removed their liquid layout and now uses one that doesn't look very good for 800*600 viewers either.
Is this setting the new standard for the developers?
Here's a picture of how digg v3 looks with a 800*600 resolution:

I wonder if they have a different layout for people using cell phones and pda's.
Adam @ 2006-06-26 20:56:01
I hate to say it but good. 800x600 came roughly around the fourth used resolution in a recent survery in many different countries. This doesn't necessarily mean people should discriminate against 800x600 but it's just like when 640x480 was phased out...

I am using a tablet pc with 768x1024 while in portrait and find it annoying to scroll over to see more stuff on screen. Also there is a white space at the top of the page that wasn't on 2.0, I think this is due to adblock and how the page was formated to display ads. Other than those 2 issues I like the new digg.
Magnus @ 2006-06-27 01:04:27
Sometimes I whant to have my webbrowser in a smaller size when I studying or something else, and 800 width size is perfect. But now we cant do that with Digg and yahoo.
Anonymous @ 2006-06-27 01:18:30
I imagine the geeks at Digg would only support the latest displays. That kind of goes with their demo. Let the Gawkers of the world have a bottom-feeder layout.
Mike @ 2006-07-09 17:55:56
it's about time, you can't keep supporting that resolution. Also the % of people with higher resolutions then 1024*768 keeps growing and growing...
